Saygus has been working 12 years on getting reasonable mobile video calling, which has all come to bear at CES in the Android-powered Vphone. The forward-facing VGA camera promises to provide four times the resolution of traditional video calling at half the usual bandwidth. This enables video calls over standard data connections, so end-users don't end up paying for premium video calling plans, and network operators don't have to fill out with a custom-built network solution. Aside from video calling, the Vphone has a few other tricks up its sleeve, including use as a Wi-Fi hotspot for
up to 8 devices, plus at least one more by Bluetooth and another by USB. Keep an eye out for a US carrier announcement by the end of January.
