SC2: TheoryCraft Mineral Mining with workers!
I run a simple test and explain basic findings of worker diminishing returns on mineral fields.
A quick run down
2 workers per patch is the highest efficiency you can achieve with proper distance from the patch to the drop off.
over saturation occurs over this up to about 3 workers per patch. Any more doesn't seem to improve income but adds resilience to worker loss.
There is a slight gain as there is less patch down time with 3 workers, a worker waits until it can harvest and acts at the soonest possible moment. With 2 workers, there's a very small period of time where a patch isn't being mined.
I used groups of 8 to perform the test. 24 seemed to be the cut off for any gain (3 per patch) in income.
Mineral Patches have 2 sizes. 1800 and 900.
With 2 workers the 900 gets mined out in 7.5 minutes.
Workers harvest about 38 gas per minute each
