SCRAP MECHANIC ENGINE UPDATE! New Textures, Dynamic Lights, Better FPS. Update Review
1,083Whats in the new Scrap Mechanic ENGINE UPDATE?! All kinds of new stuff! New textures, dynamic lighting, new inventory icons, adjustable and paintable suspension, and more! But is it all good? In this video we take a detailed look at what's been added and improved in Scrap Mechanic, and what seems to be a little bit off.
So after being in the test branch for a while, Scrap Mechanic has officially released the new engine into the main game branch! It has been a long awaited update and they added a lot more than just a new game engine. It is packed full of other smaller changes and improvements too! But as you will see, there still seem to be a few issues as well. But let's start off with the good.
THE GOOD:
- New textures! Excellent improvements have been made to most of the textures including the wood texture, the metal texture, the concrete texture, and the brick texture.
- Dynamic lighting! The lights in the game now actually cast a beam that shines on surfaces! They also added a new spotlight block to complement it.
- Suspension Resistance! You can know adjust the strength of the suspension pieces between 1 and 20 to add extra control over how suspension effects your creations.
- FPS improvements! On large static builds like houses and other buildings made of lots of material, FPS has been significantly improved.
- New Inventory Icons! The icons in the inventory have been revamped and are much more vibrant and noticeable.
- More Painting! The suspension and bearings can now be painted. And the paint tool now shows you which color is equipped
- Smooth Glass! Finally a glass material that actually looks like glass!
- Big Wheel Redesign - The Big Wheel has been redesigned to look much cooler and natural
- Many other smaller improvements!
THE BAD (for me at least)
- Game crashes for me as soon as I click the "Load Game" button, so I am unable to load any save files
- The glass does not look the way it was intended in my game, and is very white and splotchy
- The weld glitch that prevents you from welding objects together despite there being no collisions appears to still be present
- FPS is still negatively impacted by complex moving creations that have a lot of bearing stress
