Someone asked me in a comment on another on another video if I could upload a video of the 'waiting your entry' screen from Scud Race when playing in multiplayer. Now, I don't normally do requests, but I thought this was worth doing as I haven't uploaded any Supermodel network videos in awhile. So, on top of this, I decided to do a multi-player race, with all the cars hooked up to just the one controller, the maximum number of this I've previously done using Supermodel was 4 players. I decided to up the ante here... So here is a 6 way waiting your entry screen. Something interesting here is that this waiting your entry screen has got different music to the normal select your car and course single player game, which oddly isn't in the game's soundtest test menu. If I play it at the speed the game's actually running at it comes out totally garbled, so I'm just using the normal version.

This is the same Network build I used in my previous videos, as far as I'm aware, nothing's changed with how the network behaves since I uploaded those. (Edit: it has - see Ian Curtis', one of the Supermodel developers, comment in the comment section below).

At present, in order to get the Supermodel network running, you need to disable multithreading on the emulators, which makes them run in slow motion, as they are effectively only using one of your PC's CPU cores. With the normal, single player, multi-core version of Supermodel, my PC can actually handle 4 versions of it running simultaneously at full speed, as you can see in this really ancient video of mine here: https://youtu.be/fIcu8vgOn74 Just for shits 'n' giggles, I decided to add in 2 extra versions, taking the total number of players up to 6, and there was some additional noticeable slowdown doing this...

I've sped the video up afterwards and got rid of the laggy audio and re-dubbed the correct music over the top (although, I believe there is a bit of different music in the 'awaiting your entry' screen, which curiously isn't in the game's soundtest options). Also, the networked versions of Supermodel seem to cause some sort of graphical bug to happen on the Beginner Day stage in Supermodel which makes the background look like a mess of broken polygons and seems to cause the game to crash pretty quickly. I've added in some footage of it at the end.

You can download a networkable version here, or if you're a member of the Supermodel forum just use the most recent version from there.

Instructions from Supermodel Network developer Spindizzi on how to set-up a network:

"to test
create 2 different directories: 1 for the master and 1 for the slave
edit the supermodel.ini files and add:

for the master
EmulateNet=1
port_in = 1970
port_out = 1971
addr_out = "127.0.0.1"

for the slave
EmulateNet=1
port_in = 1971
port_out = 1970
addr_out = "127.0.0.1"

change the ip by your ip network, here is the local netloop to test on the same computer. I recommend starting with this netlocal loop 127.0.0.1.
Afterwards you can try between 2 computers
If pc1=192.168.0.1 and pc2=192.168.0.2 then master(pc1) : addr_out = "192.168.0.2" (sending to pc2) et slave(pc2) : addr_out = "192.168.0.1" (sending to pc1) with the quotation marks
Note the port inversion between master and slave, you can put any port you want.
In short, it looks like the config of model2, same principle

In each directory, you will also need to copy the normal version of supermodel. This will allow us to properly configure the network via the service menu
So type in command line as usual:
supermodel.exe name_of_the_rom

Enter the service menu and change the options for the network
your master to master
your slave to slave
do not forget to change the network ids (for example the master in 1 and the slave in 2)
save when leaving the service menu and leaving supermodel

now the proper network launch
the launch must be done exclusively on the command line
supermodel-net.exe -no-threads name_of_the_rom
Do not forget the -no-threads option because otherwise crash. This options will unfortunately slow down the emulator enormously while waiting for better.
Think about your firewall

Important information, the sync between master and slave may not be done correctly. If the games do not go into the attract mode or it seems blocked, it will be necessary to stop and restart, being careful to start the games in the same second (max 5 seconds). Additional constraint, impossible to pause, can not move the window once the connection is secured or else crash

I repeat, it's a development version, do not expect a miracle
Please do not go to the official forum with questions about the network because the support of the network card is still in its early stage and is not enabled by default"
