DESCRIPTION ▼
Nintendo held another Indie World Showcase these week - teasing a few gems that are on the way.

Sea of Stars:
▸ Developed by: Sabotage Studio (Canada)
▸ Platforms: PC, Nintendo Switch (more platform announcements coming soon)
▸ Release date: Q4 2022
▸ RPG set in the same universe as The Messenger. Originally revealed back in Mar 2020 and funded on Kickstarter for $1.7m AUD. Heavily inspired by Chrono Trigger, but also inspired by Super Mario RPG and Illusion of Gaia. Battle system will be like Chrono Trigger, but include "Paper Mario"-style timing attacks. There will be no random encounters, and the game will include side activities like cooking, fishing and a card game. It will feature music from composer Yasunori Mitsuda (Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Xenogears, Xenoblade Chronicles). Plot has you adventuring to take down the "Fleshmancer". Will feature up to 6 party members.

OMORI:
▸ Developed by: OMOCAT (Japan)
▸ Platforms: PC, Nintendo Switch
▸ Release date: Dec 2020 (PC), Q2 2022 (Switch)
▸ RPG from Japanese artist OMOCAT, based on their webcomic series. Kickstarted in 2014 for $285k AUD (initial $30k goal funded in 1 day). Was in development for 6 years, released on PC in Dec 2020. Besides PC, it was also planned for the Nintendo 3DS, but moved to Switch. Game is built in RPG Maker MV, although it is uncertain if Switch version is). Plot is centered around a "hikikomori" (shut-in) boy and his alter-ego. It explores themes of anxiety, depression - and takes place across the real world and a dream world. Turn-based battles feature a rock-paper-scissors system based on emotions, with unconventional status effects based on other emotions. Style is comparable to EarthBound and Yume Nikki (infamous 2004 psychological horror game).
