Sean Plays Zelda II - The Adventure of Link (NES)
When the sequel to The Legend of Zelda was released in 1987, it wasn't what anyone expected. Gone was the top-down, quasi-3D world, and instead we were treated to a land of Hyrule in platformer form. While on one hand the kingdom opened up with an overworld populated with towns and specific destinations for Link to explore, the gameplay felt more cloistered, and the RPG elements clashed with the adventure aspect that made the original so unique.
Even so, I have a soft spot for this game, and since I got a new copy of the manual recently after having lost my own 35 years ago, you bet I'm going to hammer how - at least conceptually - The Adventure of Link brought more to the story and mechanics of the Zelda universe than almost any game since.
Also, we have a special guest joining us this week: Miles Reid-Lobatto from our sister podcast Casual Trek!
