The appeal of sailing is not only of sailing the boat, but the places you visit, the liveaboard lifestyle, owning a boat that's truly uniquely yours, and the social aspect of it.

Of course dedicated sailing simulators are generally more detailed in the operational aspect of a boat like clicking on individual winches to rotate them to a very precise degree (but then again, those detailed operational aspects can be simulated on SL too, most good sailboats on SL have very good winches control and sail trim precision for example), the boats on SL are generally way better-looking graphically, too

You have infinitely more options and degree of personalization on SL, too, and if you're knowledgeable and skillful enough you can even 3D model your own boat then script it yourself or utilize existing base scripts, probably even sell the boat you created for profit

Have your boat displayed or parked on your land or marina at all times when you're not sailing, sail with friends to the hundreds of thousands of destinations on SL, meet other people and sailors, and so on!
