In the hallway after finding out Grienko's whereabouts you have a good example of the annoying bits of the shooting controls. Since auto-aim is forced, it locking on to stuff like canisters is annoying and pretty much forces you to just get close to the enemy and run and gun. Luckily you take little damage and there's always a health kit around the corner so you're never in any real danger, especially in chapters where you have your healing power, it's just that with how the game works taking cover and doing some pop-out shooting becomes slow and pointless.
Oh, those canisters John aims at constantly, you're wondering if they blow up? Yeah, sometimes, but they can take a ton of bullets before exploding and the explosion doesn't necessarily even kill any enemies. Just get up-close and personal, far easier and faster, and surprisingly also safer because Wilde might die if you spend time aiming at canisters instead of people, and Wilde dying is game over. At least I think it is.
