Youtube has always been compressing a video into different formats, so a video is breaking down into video and audio streams under multiple compression schemes. The so called youtube enhanced bitrate is really a degraded old normal bitrate, an attempt to sell you the viewer premium subscription; The "youtube enhanced bitrate" had always been free, but it's no more.

The new code for the enhanced 1080p stream is 270 for 30fps and 232 for 720p 30fps.

In short, you are treated as a retard to think there is something called enhanced bitrate, but in fact, old-normal bitrate has been downgraded, and the new enhanced bitrate is actually the old normal bitrate. This is very sick. Therefore it's highly justified to use any tool necessary to bypass this. Youtube is very disgusting on so many levels and forms.

PS. The huge amount of videos existing on youtube means it will be a while before all of them are re-compressed, so for now, most older videos are exactly the same quality normal or enhanced; but newly uploaded videos will have this new "feature" applied, since new videos are compressed with this new scheme by default. Normal bitrate is half to the enhanced bitrate. This means Normal bitrate is trashy and you either figure out a way to access enhanced bitrate for free or you have to paid that premium if quality is important to you.

In other words, a kid's free lunch milk had always been 1 cup. In order to make the kid pay for the milk, someone very sick has invented an enhanced milk; The newly enhanced milk is 1 cup, same exact milk from previous year; and the new free milk is half of a cup, so nothing has been invented and nothing has been enhanced. Same video compression codecs, Same flicking cows!! Half less!!!

PPS, free = Constant Frame rate mode; enhanced = Variable Frame rate mode; This means the quality degrades more on fast action video. The file size of free is about half of the enhanced.
