Hi YouTube! Unlike the original Columns played earlier, in which one can play it competitively if desired, Columns III is strictly that, with attacks and powerups! Vid timeline:
(0:00) Intro and gameplay rules.
(3:05) Round 1.
(7:35) Round 2.
(10:59) Round 3.
Attacks consists of creating layers of height on the opposing player's board, shrinking his available playing area! One can construct a layer per every 10 Jewels collected. Up to 30 can be collected this way, to perform a simultaneous triple layer attack.
The Magic Jewel returns and it is capable of eliminating unwanted height layers on your own board or add height layers to one's opponent, in addition to it's original function of eliminating all the Jewels of the same type.
A Jewel will start to flash if a one's performs a good chain reaction. Eliminating this Jewel afterwards, causes an adverse effect on the opposing side. From turning all his Jewels into stones, to inverting his controls to flipping his entire board upside down, there are quite a few nasty attacks one can do to disrupt one's here!
And that is it for our Columns retro gameplay week. Next week, we hit Star Wars Battlefront.
