SSGL's S/CG topic 6, 5 types of AI Bot support I've seen in video games, plus Poll Card featured.
SSGL here talking about the 5 types of AI Bots I have seen. From grunts to bodyguards to those who follow basic commands, which type would you like to see in Halo. Vid timeline:
(0:00) Intro and Poll Card: Which type of AI Bot would you like to see added for the next Halo game.
(1:57) The "Sentry" Bot. Known as "grunts" in the Titanfall FPS games. Apon arrival, these bots remain in and around their designated area for the duration of the match. Also encountered in Halo 5: Guardians' Warzone Mode in the form of Marines and aliens of various kinds.
Because of that, this is a type of bot online players are familiar with.
(3:36) The "Scripted" Bot. The type of bot that populates Survival type game modes: Halo's Firefight, Gears of War's Horde, Call of Duty's Zombies, Battlefront's Survival Missions and so forth.
In such modes, humas and bots do not intermingle in the same team. But rather, it's pure humans vs bots in all our war, where the latter have one objective in their minds: to take you out.
(4:54) The "Bodyguard" Bot. I first encountered these in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3's Survival mode. Apon purchase, a helicopter arrives, dropping a squad of friendly bots to help you fend off the waves of "Scripted" bots.
I have played along with these protective bots in the small Battle mode of Battlefront and in World of Tanks more recent added content.
(6:47) The "Full Blown" Bot. Thanks to the Call of Duty games, this is the type of bot I have most frequently ran into. And since I was with them since the first Black Ops, I have seen how they evolved in that particular CoD series. At first, only available in Death/Team Deathmatch. But now, they can be used on all objective modes, such as Domination.
As of late, I have dealt with these in the larger Battlefront modes (Walker Assault and Fighter Squadron), and surprisingly, Battleborn, who also features them, despite the complexity of it's characters.
(8:09) The "Command" Bot.
I first saw this bot in Greg Hastings: Paintball 2, where one can give basic commands to it. They appear to be gaining in popularity, albeit, quite slowly from what I'm aware off.
For example, one of the newer modes from World of Tanks that's played offline, features various types of bots to whom one can give orders too. Halo 5: Guardians' campaign has these bots in the form of teammates as well.
We'll see what the future brings to these sophisticated type of AI Bots!
Other types of AI are those encountered in racing and Real Time Strategy (RTS) games, although I don't consider them to be bots per se, but rather computer opponents.
