This.. took.. way longer than expected. Technical Tests are plagued on Manual transmission by not shifting your car up before hitting the first gate, so whichever gear it puts you in at first is what you start at. Meaning that as a result, you're best off doing this mode in Automatic. My stubborn ass tried to see if I could do it in Manual, much to my pain.
