Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes Game Sample - Wii
Being an awesome Dynasty Warriors style game for the Wii (and PS3), "Sengoku BASARA: Samurai Heroes" is a great Capcom game with tons of replayability and more varied missions and gameplay features than some Dynasty Warriors games. It is the fifth game in the "Sengoku Basara" series, the first of which was released out of Japan (in a heavily modified state) as "Devil Kings". It is very loosely based on the real characters and events of the "Sengoku Era" of feudal Japan. The popularity of the series has lead to several associated media being produced including Books, Drama CDs, Anime, and an upcoming feature-length film. The game has some hilarious scenes and characters.
If you've ever played a Dynasty Warriros game after the first one, you know what to expect here: a story about different warring factions and alliances, thousands of enemies must die, you get new weapons and skills as you rise in power and clear stages, you ride horses, have branching paths and scenarios, get allies who aide you in battle, and can reach mutiple endings. The game has a considerably smaller cast than that of the Dynasty Warriors series, but makes up for this as the characters are focused on more heavily with more unique attacks, combos, characteristics, and a more stylized gameplay engine. The enemies are also more absurd in design, form, and function too. From fighting ninjas and destroying giant machines to interesting mission objectives like lighting the darkness to contend with the Demon Queen or racing Masamune Date, or crazy moves like Ieyasu's "Tokugawa Might" and "Eastern Winds", and the cool "Hero Time" mode, the game is a lot of fun and requires many hours in order to see it to completion.
A few things that distinguish the game are character costumes which can be obtained, various titles which can be earned, and items which can be crafted from materials. The graphics are great for a Wii game (though the video will not immediately show this as dark areas are not good for recordings, so you'll notice they are brightened significantly) and the soundtrack is awesome and diverse. The level designs and characters are also interesting, although I wish you could knock enemies off of certain structures (since some of your attacks can go out of bounds and affect scenery). As far as the sounds, they are about what you'd expect, though it should be noted that the voice-overs are actually well-done as far as I'm concerned and credit should be given to the cast.
This is a video of the game in action. Enjoy.
