Sengoku Denshou follows the same premise of the original game and features similar mechanics, with a few things changed. Unlike the quick paced action of the original, this game plays more similarly to other beat 'em ups such as Final Fight, with the player being able to deliver simple combos by pressing attack continuously and enemies having more health and lifebars. The transformations now work much like regular pickups in that the player transforms automatically upon picking them instead of being able to store them like in the original game. The two player characters, which went unnamed in the original game, are now named Dan Axel and Bill Raymond respectively.
