Our BubbleBusters service tackles long-term medical isolation through the use of small, friendly, home-controlled desktop robots that place the child’s eyes, ears and voice right back into the classroom and playground.

It’s providing life-changing reconnections that overcome loneliness, reuniting friends and rekindle access to education.

This video features Seren, one of our amazing BubbleBusters, talking about how important her AV1 robot ‘David’ had been to her during her medical isolation.

David sat on her school desk though her illness while she controlled it from her home or hospital through an iPad. At breaktimes, her friends took David outside with them so that she didn’t miss out on mixing with them socially. And when the school closed due to coronavirus, David continued to be a lifeline for vital social contact as well – we were more than happy for her to take it out of school and use it to keep in contact with friends and family.

We’re working to make sure that many more of the young people in our BubbleBusters project can continue to use their No Isolation AV1 robots wherever they are, not just in school. The project is so much more than just giving out robots, it's about giving an isolated child the peace of mind that they're not being forgotten, and letting the families know that they have our support every step of the way.

We'd like to extend our warmest thanks to Seren and her family for their help in the making of this video.

BubbleBusters is just one of the ways that we're using technology to bring about inclusion. Find out more at http://www.specialeffect.org.uk
