Serious Sam: Fusion - 7Smoke Tennis 2018: Blue Edition 1/5 (Serious Difficulty)
It's been a pretty long while since I covered Red Edition, so I decided to go ahead and play through this in order to tie up any loose ends (and to satisfy the 2 people asking for it.)
Like other mappacks I've played for Serious Sam, some maps are good, some are bad, and some are generally good but have odd difficulty spikes or badly designed arenas. I guess that's to be expected of this kind of thing though, seeing as each map is handled by a different mapper and the only thing even remotely connecting them together is the story.
Oh yeah, the story... It's the classic tale of a random dude who gets whisked away to a realm of magic, where you at first just want to escape but then end up becoming somewhat sympathetic to the plight of the oppressed, and set off on a quest to kill the big bad dude ruling over everything.
It goes without saying, but the voice acting is hilariously bad. Most of the time it's so bad that it's good, other times it comes off as cringy, and there are a few occasions where you're just stuck listening to mind numbingly boring dialogue until the way forward opens up or enemies spawn in.
Gameplay wise, so far it's okay. I definitely like the pistol the most since it has 20 round magazines and autofire is enabled. Single Shotgun is fine but has a really odd looking reload animation, Super Shotgun is very satisfying to use but has a jarring sprinting animation, Tommygun is identical to the BFE AR and is therefore good, and the Rocket Launcher has the SS2 model and uses Quake 4 sound effects but works as you'd expect.
I think the first level is a bit too big in scale, not much happens in it and the end result is just sprinting around listening to dialogue with a bit of combat on top. Second level looks pretty bland but I found it to be more enjoyable than the previous level. Combat, while basic, is pretty fun, and I enjoyed finding secrets here. Only part I didn't like was the final arena; random gaps would open in the floor without any indication leading to spike pits that kills you instantly, and explosive enemies liked spawning in even though there wasn't a lot of room to avoid splash damage.
Thanks again for watching and as always, stay Serious!
