Serious Sunday: River City held ransom - Alex Mauer’s DMCA damage, & on the importance of contracts
This week, Luke returns to the topic of Alex Mauer's DMCA rampage, and how its escalation is a painful example of why, in game development, you should always get all work signed on paper, and in a legally binding contract. With the successful takedown by Mauer of River City Ransom Underground from the Steam storefront, and the removal of the RCRU soundtrack from Bandcamp, the DMCA, though being abused, is being used as a very effective weapon in fighting her battle, and continues to bring threats to the livelihood of any YouTubers that dare to go against her.

Serious Sunday is a freeform, sometimes roundtable discussion between the members of Level 0 NPCs, where a specific topic is pre-selected by the group to be explored and discussed at length. Each of the NPCs approach the topic from both the perspective of a seasoned, die-hard gamer, and as creators of games themselves. Part freeform review, part critical analysis, part video game book club, Serious Sunday is where the NPCs take a step back and take a moment to give a serious look at something that is important to the industry, or games in general.
