Forward LK version gives you a "free" foot distance. Remember it's not instant, therefore you may be caught by a counter hit if not properly used.

You can also get pretty good results with forward MK. The later you press MP+MK, the longer your kara will last. That means you will get a lot of starting frames from the original normal. It makes the move go further, but also make the saving come later, making you more vulnerable.
