Testing out Shadow of Mordor on the GTX 970 FTW and Intel Core i5 4690K. The Graphics preset was set to Ultra and all 4 GB of VRAM was used without a single stutter during gameplay. A lot of people say that the GTX 970 has a 3.5 GB VRAM problem but I've never actually noticed this issue.
