The Japanese version of Shadow of Rome got censored to where there is no dismemberment, but there is still plenty of blood. Which is strange because the gladiator missions are based around it normally, in order to score big points. CERO, the Japanese version of the ESRB, didn't start rating games until a year after SoR came out in Japan, so that's the likely reason why it was censored over there. US and European versions kept all the dismemberment. Japanese version is on the left, while the US version is on the right. Shadow of Rome was released in 2005, and sold poorly enough to where the planned sequel was reworked into Dead Rising.
