Shadowgate (NES) Longplay (No Commentary)
This is my playthrough of Shadowgate for the NES.
One small thing to note about this playthrough, as well as those that I've got coming from Deja Vu and Uninvited, as well. This is actually recorded through the Steam port of these games, titled "8-bit Adventure Anthology: Volume 1" and you can hear a bit of the game selection music in the intro and outro to these videos. My apologies, I did want it to seem like it was the true NES version, but hey, crud happens, right? At least you'll have some background images to look at at the sides of the screen.
Anyways, this was recorded in 1920x1080p at 60 FPS.
Anyways, on to the game itself. Shadowgate is an Adventure game made by ICOM, and this version was ported to the NES by Kemco, who also made the game a bit less harsh than its PC version in that there are almost no ways to screw yourself out of beating the game, but there are still an awful lot of ways to die, and in the version that I recorded for this video, there are six achievements for this game and literally every single one of them requires the player to die in some way. Funny, huh?
Another addition to the ICOM games on NES is that they actually have music to go along with them, and they are, for the most part, really good! There are some stinkers in Shadowgate, but I do like most of 'em, especially the theme that plays throughout most of the first several rooms of the game.
Graphics are pretty good, for an NES game, and it's clear that the devs tried to be as faithful to the original PC versions of the game as possible, which is quite difficult for non-Japanese folks due to Nintendo's censorship policies at the time.
Overall, pretty good game, and one that I recommend, but be forewarned that this game is really short, and it's just sad to me, although I don't know why.
