Shadowgate (Apple Macintosh) Longplay (No Commentary)
This is my playthrough of Shadowgate for the Apple Macintosh.
Remember how I said that the time limit in Deja Vu was the reason that I didn't play that game sooner? Well, *this* game has a time limit related to your torches going out, and that's on top of the fact that the player has to manage his inventory and that he isn't carrying too much. However, all that little bit said, Shadowgate isn't as bad as I remember it being, not that it's a bad game, mind you, but the inventory and time limit aren't as bad as I remember them being. Maybe horseback riding lessons have helped me? I'll have to explain that in a video on my main channel as to why I think horseback riding lessons have helped me with video games, but this game's inventory management and time limit aren't as bad as I remember them being.
Wait! I forgot that Shadowgate has a second time limit, in that Talimar will occasionally pop up (or at least his eyes will) to remind you that he's summoning the behemoth, so in addition to making sure you have enough torches to get through the game, you also have to make it to Talimar in time before he summons the Behemoth. However, I remember trying to actively trigger that years ago, just standing outside Shadowgate, waiting for Talimar to summon the Behemoth, and yet nothing happened. Maybe I didn't take enough turns to do it? I honestly don't know.
Anyway, you'll notice a few changes between this version of Shadowgate and the NES version of Shadowgate. For example, in the room after the Cyclops, there is a room to the right in the PC versions that isn't there in the NES and GBC versions. That's the Goblin Room, and I've heard that it was removed from the NES versions of the game because it was basically a death-only room. Nothing to do in there except get killed.
Another change you'll notice in the PC version, at least on the Apple Macintosh version is that the graphics are much better, even if they're in monochrome, and it really helps to make you feel like you've traveled back in time to the 1980s. This game was released in the 1980s, right? The Apple Macintosh version, right?
Anyway, you'll notice that there is a jump cut or two in there, one is for a death, another is to fix a mistake where I entered the wrong exit from a room. Hey, mistakes happen, and I do hope this proves that I'm editing my videos to cut out the boring parts and the mistakes so as not to bore you. You understand, yes?
I hope you enjoy this video, this is the most fun I've had with this game in a while. I certainly enjoyed recording it, and if you would like to see both Apple versions of Deja Vu 2: Lost in Las Vegas, as well as the Apple II GS versions of Deja Vu and Shadowgate--I was gonna do them, but I decided not to so as not get bored or burned out--I'll get around to them as soon as I can.
