One of the major Kickstarter projects of last year has now been finished, and the initial impressions and reviews so far seem to be rather positive. Shadowrun Returns from Harebrained Schemes is a turn-based cyberpunk RPG based on the venerable tabletop system which a lot of video gamers became familiar with through earlier adaptations such as Beam Software's Shadowrun (SNES, 1993) or the lesser known but more sophisticated Genesis game by BlueSky Software. Personally I remember renting the aforementioned SNES title and playing through the first third or so with a friend during a frantic weekend almost 20 years ago now (wow, I'm getting old!), but that's the extent of my shadowrunning experience before now. Apart from a really slick XCOM-esque combat system, the new game is especially promising because of its fully featured campaign editor, which will surely give this relatively cheap downloadable title some serious (augmented) legs...
