In a hilarious and now-viral story, NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal claims he’s been to “every zoo in the world”—and there’s one thing they all have in common: the gorillas apparently recognize him as one of their own.
“Every time I go to the gorilla section, they look at me like, ‘Hey man, where your fur at?’” Shaq said during a recent segment, much to the disbelief of his co-hosts. “They always go crazy when they see me,” he insisted.
To prove he wasn’t exaggerating, Shaq even posted a clip to his Facebook and called up Ron Magill, the director of Zoo Miami, live during the show. Magill backed him up, saying, “The gorillas get intimidated. They look at Shaq and think he’s gonna take away their girls.”
Shaq doubled down on the story during an appearance on the Impaulsive podcast, describing how gorillas across various zoos react the same way—coming up to the glass, posturing, and seemingly trying to assert dominance.
“I mess with them a little,” Shaq admitted. “They all come up to the glass and start pounding on it.”
Whether it’s his sheer size, energy, or presence, the reaction has become a consistent (and hilarious) experience for the basketball icon.
While some may still be skeptical of Shaq's claim that he’s visited every zoo in the world, one thing’s for sure—wherever there are gorillas, they apparently know exactly who Shaquille O’Neal is… and they aren't quite sure what to make of him.
