Sharka's QuickBytes #23: Sierra On-Line's Quest for Technical Excellence #DOS #MSDOS #Retrogaming
In Sharka's QuickBytes, I'll be taking a bite-sized (byte-sized?) look at retro games, usually several per video when I'm covering a particular series or theme. There'll be more editing and shorter and more scripted commentary in QuickBytes than in the laid-back Nostalgic Nibbles and MEGABytes series', and most vids won't be longer than ten minutes - perfect for a quick blast of Sharka-themed retro goodness.
In this episode, I'll be showcasing the IBM PC Compat/DOS PC version of Game Arts' Silpheed, published in 1988 by those purveyors of Quests and Lounge Lizards, Sierra On-Line. Though they're most remembered for their graphic adventures, Sierra was also a pioneer of advanced technology in gaming throughout their existence under Ken and Roberta Williams, always seeking to push the limits of what was accepted as possible, especially when it comes to sound.
Silpheed was one of those games that led the charge.
