Sharka's QuickBytes #30: Sifting through Shattered Dreams #N64 #Robotech
In Sharka's QuickBytes, I'll be taking a bite-sized (byte-sized?) look at retro games, usually several per video when I'm covering a particular series or theme. There'll be more editing and shorter and more scripted commentary in QuickBytes than in the laid-back Nostalgic Nibbles and MEGABytes series', and most vids won't be longer than ten minutes - perfect for a quick blast of Sharka-themed retro goodness.
Of all the prototypes I've played of games that never actually got released, the star of this QuickBytes episode, Robotech: Crystal Dreams is the one that now feels the most tragic. There is so much potential here, and it would have been interesting to see if the developers did meet their lofty goals of an open-world sandbox space combat sim on N64 with random missions, branching paths based on your performance, lite-RPG elements and romancing NPCs.
