Shazam Underperforms
Shazam! Fury of the Gods has disappointed DC fans with its underwhelming performance at the box office. There are now speculations as to why the movie failed, with reports claiming that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson rejected the idea of connecting his Black Adam character to Shazam! in post-credits scenes. Zachary Levi, who stars in the Shazam sequel, supports this theory and agrees that the movie's failure was due to fans of the Zack Snyder DC films hoping for it to fail. Warner Bros. is also facing challenges in maintaining control over the DC Universe during its transition period to a new era under DC Studios chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran, resulting in some directors and actors being let go or left uncertain about their future with the company.
Despite this, The Flash, Blue Beetle, and Aquaman 2 are still set to be released this year, with James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy scheduled for 2025. Warner Bros. must respond to the poor performance of Shazam! Fury of the Gods, but must first address the chaotic situation in the DC Universe. The company must regain control over its properties to ensure the franchise's future success, especially with the uncertain future of directors and actors in the DC Universe.
