The Daniels Join Star Wars: Skeleton Crew
Oscar-winning filmmakers Daniels have set their sights on the Star Wars universe with their latest project, directing an episode of the upcoming Disney+ series “Skeleton Crew,” according to sources from The Hollywood Reporter. The series, set in the New Republic era, centers around a group of kids lost in the galaxy and trying to find their way home. Executive produced by “The Mandalorian” creators Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, “Skeleton Crew” stars Jude Law and is being produced by Tom Holland’s “Spider-Man” trilogy director Jon Watts.
The Daniels, known for their hit film “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” won three Oscars earlier this year for best original screenplay, best director, and best picture. The A24 feature also won best actress (Michelle Yeoh), best-supporting actor (Ke Huy Quan), best supporting actress (Jamie Lee Curtis), and best editing (Paul Rogers). The duo recently signed a five-year deal with Universal for their next project, which will be an original feature.
Details about “Skeleton Crew” have been kept under wraps, as is common with all things related to Star Wars. The series began filming over the summer and recently wrapped, but the complete list of directors is unknown. The directors of “The Mandalorian” season three were not revealed until a trailer drop two months ahead of the premiere. However, it has been confirmed that Daniels directed one episode of “Skeleton Crew.”
In an Instagram story after the news broke, Daniel Kwan wrote, “We love Jon, we love Star Wars, love learning new tech, we love meeting new cast and crew, and we needed the days to keep our healthcare (!!!), so it was an easy yes.” The news of the Daniels’ involvement in “Skeleton Crew” comes just weeks ahead of Star Wars Celebration in London, where more of Lucasfilm’s upcoming plans will be revealed. Currently, “The Mandalorian” season three is streaming, and the Rosario Dawson-led spinoff “Ahsoka” is expected to drop later this year.
The Daniels’ involvement in the Star Wars universe is just the latest in a string of successful collaborations with major studios. Their talent and unique storytelling abilities have earned them accolades and critical acclaim, and their latest project is sure to be highly anticipated by both Star Wars fans and film enthusiasts alike.
