About the Game:
Sherlock Holmes Chapter One is an action-adventure mystery video game in the Sherlock Holmes series developed by Frogwares. It was initially advertised as being a prequel to the rest of the series. However, it was later treated as the start of a soft reboot of the series.
Described as an "origin story", the game is set in the year 1880 on the fictional Mediterranean island of Cordona, an otherwise idyllic island that is rich in history. Having decided to leave England, and his overprotective brother Mycroft, a young Sherlock Holmes sails with his enigmatic friend "Jon" to Cordona, with the intention to revisit his old childhood home where he grew up, and pay his respects to his mother's final resting place; an attempt to find closure about a childhood he scarcely remembers. Upon arriving, however, Sherlock finds that his simple visit is anything but simple, as he unavoidably finds himself drawn into the mystery surrounding his upbringing and the circumstances of his mother's death. And his investigations will uncover a sinister conspiracy lurking beneath the surface of Cordona that threatens to force Sherlock to examine his own actions, thoughts, and behavior, and sets him on a path to becoming the world's greatest consulting detective.
Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One was released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S on 16 November 2021, with the PlayStation 4 version released on 28 April 2022. It received mixed to positive reviews from critics, with praise for its detective gameplay and investigations, but criticism for its open world design.
