The first part of Sherlock Holmes vs. Jack the Ripper, played blind on PC. This adventure game was released in 2009 and developed by Frogwares. It's a mix of puzzle solving, light exploration and detective work. You play both Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, switching between them as the game progresses. Obviously the object of the game is to investigate and ultimately catch Jack the Ripper. It can be played like a traditional point and click game with a fixed camera or in first person. This playthrough will be almost entirely in first person as I prefer the immersion factor.
It's a fun game, though a bit janky in places both performance and production wise, it's clearly not AAA. The environments are atmospheric though and I enjoyed exploring them, though I may be biased because I have a soft spot for games set in London. To be fair the later Frogwares Sherlock Holmes games are better but this is OK for what it is.
In this first part Holmes and Watson visit Whitechapel to try and get some preliminary reports on the latest Ripper murder. This involves running a few errands for the locals, but it's a good opportunity to explore the area. This is actually the largest area in the game and spans several streets and alleys, all of which can be freely explored.
