Meet Coach Melanie Rahr. She works in the Horseheads District in New York as a social worker for middle school and coach for high school esports. When the district wanted to include Special Olympics New York Unified Esports in their school, Melanie volunteered to lead the program. Unified Esports combines students with intellectual disabilities (Special Olympics athletes) and students without intellectual disabilities (Unified partners) on inclusive esports teams.
As the only coach for the entire esports program, her passion, hard work, and sacrifice have made a profound impact on the lives of her students and she shares this standout moment with her Unified Esports program highlighting camaraderie, genuine connection, and passion.
