Shinobue Flute: Good Tone vs Bad Tone, Side by Side Comparison. Can You Recognize the Difference?
15To improve your tone, you need to be able to recognize the difference between a good tone and a bad tone. It is very subtle, but you must learn the difference if you want to improve your ryo on tone so that your kan on will have a good foundation to stand on. It's not just what you hear. You must use your feelings as well. A good tone feels EASY. If you are laboring to create a note, (for example, you have a hard time making a kan on note), it's not a good tone. When you play a good tone, it comes out easily out of shinobue, and all of a sudden, you feel like, "Why wasn't I able to do this before??" Of course, you try to do it again, and it won't come out that easy again LOL. So, you keep on practicing to get that "EASY" feeling consistently. But first of all, you need to recognize the difference between a good tone and a bad tone. It took me a long time to know the difference and I'm still learning all the time!!!
