Just days before the end of the school year, 19 students who'd just returned from recess on Tuesday were gunned down in their classroom in a shooting that also claimed the lives of two teachers.
It was the 27th school shooting of 2022 and the nation's second-deadliest school massacre.
Heartbroken parents were forced to line up and give DNA samples to help identify the victims. The shooter, whom DBL is not naming or displaying, purchased two assault rifles on Sunday, six days after his 18th birthday, officials say. He was shot and killed by authorities.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said Wednesday that the shooter had warned on social media of his intentions moments before carrying them out.
