Shooty Fruity - VR Gameplay HTC Vive
7A great wave shooter... but still a wave shooter.
I went in to this one skeptical and hesitant and my fears were confirmed. The game is a very well done wave shooter but there are just so many wave shooters and so few games with deep and meaningful gameplay/stories. It's hard to endorse yet another wave shooter.
That being said, the graphics were bright, cheerful and kid friendly... I just spilled juice on my hands in the thumbnail... Yeah, Juice... From the enemies to the weaponry everything feels very... aimed at kids? In the same way that Shrek is aimed at kids. Bright and cartoony, not very realistic but a double barrel revolver is just fun! It seems like a good VR game for the younger players. Let them blow away their hated fruit fiends!
The audio was well done. Nothing to complain about here. The background music had me bobbing my head and tapping my feet to the beat. The voice over was well done. You can really feel the happiness and enthusiasm radiating out of the speakers. Well done.
No issues with the controls other than my instinct being to use the grip to grab weapons off the rack instead of trigger.
It all comes back to the fact that the game is a very well polished Wave Shooter with 49 levels of content, 24 weapons and a nice progression path. But it's still a wave shooter.
I've been going back and forth on weather or not I should give this a thumbs down with the caveat that if you like wave shooters... or if I should give it a thumbs up with the caveat unless you can't stand wave shooters...
I said in the video that it would likely be a thumbs down and I think I'm going to go back on that. It does what it sets out to do and it does it well. It's not fair to judge a well polished game negatively purely because of the genre. That being said, I would really like to see devs try harder in other genres already...
