43The evolution of VR Rifle adapters or a cumbersome mess? Lets take a look...
Right out of the box the adapter looks somewhat intimidating. While fairly straightforward, there are no instructions and some items would benefit from a brief explanation.
The initial setup was fairly straightforward once you dig in. Unfortunately due to a manufacturing defect my clamp that holds the controller mount arrived broken. While finger tightening it into position the metal screw piece separated from the plastic materiel.
I spoke with my contact and they assured me that they will increase their QA process and if a defective part arrives you can contact them and they will immediately ship you a replacement part at no cost. However that's still a poor customer experience and one of the major influences of the final verdict.
The adapter is highly customizable however that comes with some extra initial setup. It took most of the night to finally get a configuration that felt good and usable. I eventually did manage to partially glue the broken mounting bracket back into place making it mostly usable.
Gameplay:
The stock performed its purpose admirably. Once I got the configuration nailed down at least. It provided stability and support and I did feel that my sniping was improved by having the adapter.
However... There is a trade off. In gamer stats: You're effectively adding range and stability and sacrificing reload speed and weapon swapping.
Interacting with the environment was more difficult. Inserting and removing the controllers from the mounts was more cumbersome than I would have liked. It took more force than I feel like a good stock should require to get the controllers mounted as well as removing them for tasks like reloading.
If you didn't use that force to get the controller inserted, it easily falls out, contrary to the video on their website.
This might come down to muscle memory but it was fairly awkward. It may also be a failing of all rifle stocks. I'll need to test others to be sure.
Ultimately I think this is going to come down to personal preference. If you can try it before you buy it do so. I'm unsure as to whether or not the gains in stability and precision are worth the trade off of the awkward handling. If you're more of a cautious sniper in games where you'd use it, you're likely to get more usage out of this adapter.
I'm of two minds with this adapter. There are some benefits but there are some significant down sides including potential manufacturing defects. My experience thus far hasn't been the best.
I will likely keep using it for a few more days and stream some while using the adapter so be sure to follow and turn on notifications to catch some live gameplay with it.
After a night with the adapter though, there's enough good that I can't outright say, don't get it. There's also enough negatives that I can't wholly endorse the adapter either. This is going to be a judgement call based on the gameplay you've seen. I wish I had a better decision for you guys.
