In this video, we check out whether the 2018 re-release version of the NES Classic Edition is the same or different from the 2016 launch-day edition.

The day is finally here, the NES Classic Edition has finally returned and they are in plentiful supply. How can I say that? I walked into my local Target Store and they had over 20 units in the showcase. Yeah, that's good stuff. But for those who are finally able to get their hands on one after 2 years are they in for a shock? Is this really the same system that came out 2 years ago or is Nintendo trying to pull a fast one?

To be honest this is the same system as in 2016. But it's different.

Wait, isn't that double speak? It is but it isn't. See what I did there? Let's talk about the box first because that's where 99% of the changes lie. Nintendo has moved the Seal of Quality from the lower right-hand corner of the box to the lower left, just above the Nintendo Logo itself. Why would they do this? Well, they put an ESRB rating on the front of the box in that spot, so the seal of quality had to go somewhere, right?

The rest of the box is mostly unchanged. Some of the colors look a little different, but that could be attributed to different ink, sourcing of cardboard or sun fading on my original. The back, top, bottom and side panels all have the exact same information.

Inside the box, there are few if any, changes and in one instance that's a bad thing. The controller cord is still ridiculously short and that Nintendo didn't address this when they had the chance is sad. If you're willing to change the box why not tweak the controller cord? The other minor difference is that the MyNintendo points insert is no-longer included as Nintendo has ended that program.

I love the fact that the NES Classic is back, it is such a great looking and performing machine. Yes, it has inherent lag and latency in the system, most noticeable in Punch Out, but in the end, it's still amazingly fun. It's not a perfect system but it's darn good. I'm glad I have one, a launch edition, which leaves the question of what am I going to do with this one?

Since I have one of these I do not need a second one. Make sure you check out the Pinned Post on this video to see how you can enter to win THIS NES Classic Edition. Rules and Terms are all available through that link. Good luck to everyone!
