I've been on a 2d souls-like kick lately, and this time I think I've found one of the gems - No Place for Bravery really makes a good impression by respecting the player a lot more than other similar games - you can make the game extremely hard or 'tolerably easy' (some players may still struggle, but you can make it as accessible or inaccessible as you want) - and you have an interesting agency in how the story ends - needless to say, I enjoyed it a lot.
