In this video we review the Retro-Bit Super Retro-Cade plug and play system featuring games from the Arcade, NES, Super NES and Sega Genesis.

For about the same price as the NES Classic the Super Retro-Cade features some of the best officially-licensed games from top developers around the world. Double Dragon, Final Fight, Bad Dudes, Section Z, Super Dodgeball, the list goes on and on. If you loved games of the 80’s there are sure to be titles here you know and love.

Connecting the Super Retro-Cade to your television can be done with either the included stereo AV or HDMI cables. Retro-Bit includes both cables in the box, along with an AC Adapter.

A system like this is made or broken when it comes to how well it emulates the original games and the Super Retro-Cade does an amazing job across all platforms. The arcade classics are spot on, for better or worse. The Arcade versions of Bad Dudes and Final Fight are exactly as you remember; you can finally play as Guy at home!! The sound and controls are amazing; they just work as they should. But when you get to Double Dragon and Double Dragon 3 these are, unfortunately, the two weak points on this system. The lag, slow frame rates and overall poor performance of these two titles are really my biggest disappointment for this system.

One of the most common questions about systems like this is whether or not you can load additional games on the system to play ROMS on it. The short answer is yes, yes you can. In fact I’ve never had a system, short of a PC, that is this easy as this to add ROMs to and expand the library. All you need to do is create a folder on an SD card titled “retrobit games” and drop the ROMs in the folder and pop it into the back of the Super Retro-Cade. Once you do the system will prompt you to ask where you want to load the games from, locally on the device or from the SD card.

Just like the “iPhone Killer” phrase that gets tossed around too much the Retro-Bit Super Retro-Cade is definitely a contender for “NES Classic Killer” and “SNES Classic Killer”. There are those of us who just want all-things Nintendo but if you just want to play some amazing games on a console you can ACTUALLY buy and find in-stores the Retro-Bit Super Retro-Cade needs to be high on your list. You’ll want to check it out, you won’t regret it!

Why it RoX
- Only $60!
- Amazing collection of some of the best 3rd party games from home and arcade
- Great Emulation
- Add more games easily without having to Hack or Crack the system
- Included controllers are very good
- All-in-1-box purchase
- Save states
- I don’t need to have $47 in quarters to try to beat Final Fight!
What could be improved:
- Double Dragon and Double Dragon 3 are almost unplayable due to lag and slowdown
- Doesn’t work with Retro-Bit’s own DualLink SNES controllers
- No way to set video settings across all games
- Only 1 Genesis title
- While the cord length is great wireless controllers would have been appreciated
