MEGAMAN Coming to Nintendo Switch! Should You Pre-Order Megaman 11 & Megaman Legacy on the Switch

Megaman has always been one of the finest action platformers since he first arrived way back in 1987 on the Nintendo Entertainment System. Ever since then Megaman, or Rockman if you are outside the USA, has blasted, morphed and assumed the powers of countless numbers of Dr. Wily’s evil robots. Even after the NES wasn’t the platform of choice more Megaman games were released until the blue bomber was upgraded for the next generation… of home consoles with the 16-bit Megaman 7. While not as universally loved as the original it still was a vast improvement in-terms of sound and graphics. From here Megaman would battle Dr. Wily on a variety of home consoles, from the NES, Super NES, Game Boy, Gameboy Advance, Playstation, PS2, PS3 and more.
After the Megaman series’ successor debuted, the Megaman X lineup of games, we also saw Megaman dive into the 3D platformer realm to less than stellar reviews. In fact Megaman 64 is pretty universally hated due to lackluster gameplay and terrible graphics. Capcom tried to return to form with Megaman 9 and Megaman 10, these were direct sequels to the original Megaman series of NES games, even featuring 8-bit style graphics. While a return to form these weren't necessarily universally praised.
Keiji Inafune, who was one of the early developers in the Megaman/Rockman series eventually left Capcom but went on to create "Mighty Number 9", considered to be a spiritual, if not poor, successor to Megaman. While the influences were unmistakeable, again, the game was not well received and was generally panned by the gaming public.
On December 4, 2017 Capcom annouced that it was launching a new entry into the Megaman collection, titled Megaman 11. This looks to update the graphics to better represent what modern consoles and PCs can run with the familiar 2D Action Platformer that made previous successful Megaman games tick. Unlike Sega's revamping of Sonic for Sonic Mania which stuck to the 16-bit Genesis-style graphics and even Capcom's own Megaman 9 and 10 which used 8-bit inspired graphics Megaman 11 appears to completely update the graphics for something modern and clean, something that looks to be a natural progression from the Megaman 7 graphics and look for the blue bomber.
One downside is we don't know much else about the new game besides it is coming. We know the platforms, PC, XBox One, PS4 and Switch but we don't have a launch date or price. We also do not know if this will be a physical release or if it will be a digital download. We're hoping for a physical copy but expecting digital-only.
We also learned in the same press conference that both Megaman Legacy 1 and Legacy 2 will be heading to the Nintendo Switch sometime in 2018. This is an amazing collection and will be well at-home on the Switch. Much like Megaman 11 we do not have release date, price or digital or physical media information. It would be fair to expect all these to be ironed out at or before E3 2018.
