This is 17 minutes of me showing some of the functionalities of a glitch I have discovered. As I believe I am the first person to document the glitch, I have tentatively named it the “Transition Quit Glitch” due to how it is performed.

To execute the glitch you have to pause and quit on the frame before going through a screen transition upwards. This works anywhere where this is possible in the game, but it is most useful, easiest, fastest, and most interesting to do it in the Time Trials, which is what I show.

I believe that the glitch works as follows:
The game stores Viridian’s velocity when you pause, and thus when you unpause, the game immediately uses the velocity to place Viridian where he should be at the speed he should be traveling at. If you pause and then quit on a frame in which Viridian’s velocity would take him through a screen transition on the next frame, the game places Viridian on the next screen in the direction of the screen transition at the same time it is trying to go back to the title screen.
The result is that Viridian ends up in the main game at those coordinates, but with a velocity of 0 and gravity direction downwards (the default upon game startup). However, the entire world is now invisible; it is impossible to see Viridian. Additionally, it is impossible to pause the game in this state or check the menu. Luckily, both of these problems can be solved by closing the VVVVVV app and restarting the game, as long as you have gotten a checkpoint or touched a teleporter. The most interesting thing is, if you were in a time trial when the glitch was performed, the game puts you in the MAIN GAME- not the Time Trial. Your map will be made up of only what screens you have been on since you performed the glitch; this is shown multiple times in the video. Finally, the in game timer is preserved from the time trial- the best part for speedrunners.

The easiest screen on which to perform the glitch is the first screen of The Final Level time trial because there are actually multiple frames on which the glitch works. This will teleport you to the main world map at the bottom right corner, inside a wall (hence the odd flipping noises initially). However you eventually get through the wall no matter what and end up in the small cutout section of the map.
The most interesting screen on which to perform this glitch is the first screen of The Warp Zone time trial. This actually lead to the room above the start on the map, which is the second-to-last room of the dungeon. By backtracking you can talk to and save the crewmate there and then head over to the teleporter. Luckily, the game becomes visible again after teleporting back to the ship.
The most useful screen on which to perform this glitch is the third screen of the Space Station 2 time trial (or any subsequent up-falling screen at increasing time loss). After performing the glitch you can simply flip up to the checkpoint, close the app, reenter, press continue, and you restart at the checkpoint with the lights back on. This saves the time from the trip over to the dungeon as well as most of the opening cutscenes. However, the first dungeon beaten MUST be Violet’s, as otherwise the game will softlock when she is rescued (at least on iOS with all known glitches). Afterwards, you can teleport directly to the middle of Space Station 2 to save Vermillion. This ends up being a huge time save because of the cutscene skips; however, I’m still looking to see if I can find a better one. For now, this is the best there is.

If this glitch works in the PC version of VVVVVV, I believe it has the capability of taking down the WR of the Any% No Telejumping category by at least 20 seconds, and if it has some of the abilities that I think it does, perhaps up to 2 and a half minutes.

Please leave a comment! I’d love to hear your feedback, I think that this is very important to the speed running community for VVVVVV, at least on iOS.

EDIT: First of all, this glitch does not have all of the potential I had hoped for; namely, you cannot skip an extra entire dungeon. Additionally, according to those who have tried it on PC (from what they have told me), it cannot be done. Although I cannot for certain say that it cannot be done on PC, those who have tried it so far have failed. Still, it is a method that can lead to beating the game more quickly on iOS (and any mobile version, for that matter!), so I would love to see people trying to beat my PB using this method so I have a reason to run Any% with this glitch again. If you can beat a 16:49 on mobile using this glitch, show me a video!
