Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri 1999

Alpha Centauri is 4X game which is considered a Sci-Fi sequel to the Civilization series. Set in a Sci-FI Setting in the late 22nd century, the game starts with 7 contending ideological factions which land on Chiron "Planet" in the Alpha Centauri system.
As the game progresses, Planet's growing "perception" becomes a formidable obstacle to the human terraforming efforts.

Alpha Centauri features enhancements on Civ II's game engine : social engineering, climate, customizable/moddable units, alien native life, additional diplomatic and spy options, additional ways to win, and greater mod-ability.

The game received vast critical praise, being related favorably to Civilization II. Critics praised its Sci-Fi story setting to works by Isaac Asimov,Frank Herbert & Arthur C. Clarke. Alpha Centauri also received myriad of awards for best game of the year and best strategy game of the year.
