Bonus Boss: Faceless Tyrant

Boss fights in Side Saddle 2 are fairly short, so I decided to include two in this video (a habit which I'll likely get into doing for later short entries as well). The first boss, Ticktock Heart, shows off the various types of attacks bosses tend to throw at you and is a fairly straightforward fight; like all bosses, it is impossible to directly attack the weapons, but destroying all the nodes of a certain color will in turn destroy any weapons linked to them.

Faceless Tyrant is a more involved fight and makes use of a few gimmicks. First, many of the nodes are tied to the healing node near the top and will regenerate until the healing node is destroyed (a gimmick used in a few other fights). Secondly, Faceless Tyrant has a 'Z' next to its name on the boss select screen, meaning the Z key does something unique to that fight, in this case changing the position of a shield which protects the player.

Side Saddle 2 itself is a short game, but it possesses a good amount of replay value. The name of the game comes from the fact that players can only attack to the sides instead of forward like in most shmups, but players can also place temporary, stationary turrets which shoot in all four directions to help even things out. Trophies are a big part of what gives Side Saddle 2 its replay value as players have no way to 'lose' a fight, but a certain number of trophies need to be earned in order to unlock later fights and the requirements for earning such trophies generally force players to approach the same fights in different ways, such as defeating a boss within a certain amount of time vs defeating a boss without getting hit.
