Sideshow Bob smoking and cackling to "Rocko" music!
96Today's the 30th anniversary of the Season 5 "The Simpsons" episode "Cape Feare," the third major appearance of Sideshow Bob (and the first where rather than a mystery plot, it's a straightforward dark story about Bob attempting to kill Bart). It parodies "Cape Fear," largely the 1962 thriller film, but also throws in a spoof of the scene in the 1991 remake where Max (Robert De Niro) smokes a cigar and laughs loudly in a cinema, annoying all the other patrons. Around this time, "Rocko's Modern Life" also had a semi-spoof of that scene in the episode "Popcorn Pandemonium", with a large warthog moviegoer smoking a cigar and annoying the other patrons. So, with Pat Irwin releasing a 30th anniversary "Rocko's Modern Life" soundtrack album, I was able to take the music from that scene and add it to this Golden Age "Simpsons" moment, in one of my signature instances of combining two parodies of the same source into one!
