Police Quest: In Pursuit of the Death Angel is the first story in the saga of Sonny Bonds, an up-and-coming traffic cop who becomes embroiled in a world of drugs and violence when a traffic stop turns into a murder investigation, and one of his contacts, a hooker with a heart of gold named Sweet Cheeks Marie gives him a lead on breaking open the case of an infamous drug dealer named mysteriously, the "Death Angel", that gets him off the beat and into the narcotics division. Sonny must play the part of the good cop, following police procedure to the letter, while still getting the bad guy.
In Pursuit of the Death Angel is the first game in a series of Sierra Point 'n Click adventure games, designed by retired California Highway Patrol officer-come-video game designer Jim Walls, and is the game series that he is most well-known for. As with all of Walls's games, it's classified as much as a simulation as it is an adventure game, as it incorporates not only adventure style puzzle solving, but the actual use of real police procedure. Of all of the Sierra Point 'n Click games, Police Quest is by far the most grounded in reality, with perhaps the exception of the one-off Gold Rush!, which was released the following year. Police Quest spawned 2 more sequels by Jim Walls, as well as a further series of games by former LAPD chief Daryl F. Gates, and an RTS series called SWAT. It also recieved a VGA remake 5 years after its initial release, in 1992.
The NPCs are playing Police Quest on the GOG.com DOSbox version with Tandy PC Speaker audio.
Sierra Saturday is a weekly series on the Level 0 NPCs channel, where Matt & Luke relive their childhoods playing classic adventure games of the '80s and '90s (and beyond?). Sierra adventure games were a special breed of dark humor, brutally unfair puzzles and unforgettable characters, and we hope you enjoy this walk down memory lane with us.
