About Silent Hill:
You play as Harry Mason, your average single dad taking a vacation with his daughter Cheryl. Driving late at night at the edge of town, a young woman appears in the middle of the road forcing Harry to swerve and crash to avoid her. Waking up some time later, you find Cheryl is missing, she must have gone to Silent Hill. All is not as it seems in this mysterious town. Snow falls out of season, it's too quiet and no one seems to be around. You only have the enshrouding fog to keep you company as you search for clues to find your daughter.
Silent Hill was released in 1999. The infamous fog and snow were put in-game to cover up the visual limitations and muddy up the graphics! Now, the fog is used very often as a reference to the game, making its stamp on the eerie and creepy atmosphere of Silent Hill. Unlike many games in the survival horror genre, the protagonist is portrayed as your 'every day guy', with no combat training.
Did you know?
Within this tourist town there are many Easter eggs paying homage to famous horror authors and even their film adaptation references. The most notable being the street names, where each street has the surname of authors and some examples are:
Levin St. - Ira Levin best known for Rosemary's Baby and Stepford Wives.
Bachman Road - Richard Bachman (The pen name for Stephen King)
Koontz St - Dean R. Koontz
And many, many more!
