SIMCITY ADDS OFFLINE MODE, MODS (Escapist News Now)
Sim City creator Maxis has announced the building simulation game will be available to play offline. The game along with publisher Electronic Arts was heavily criticized during the game's launch last year for terrible server and internet connectivity issues.
In a post on the Maxis blog, the company stated that, "Offline is coming as a free download with Update 10 to all SimCity players...all of your previously downloaded content will be available to you anytime, anywhere, without the need for an internet connection."
Also included in Update 10 is the new Single Player Mode which allows you to play the game by yourself, which allows you to save games and have them stored locally. When and if you do log in, all of your pre-existing saved cities and regions will be accessible.
This offline update comes on the heels of the ability to mod SimCity. Maxis set up basic guidelines for the modding community including: not jeapardizing the integrity of the gameplay, no tampering with leaderboards, no infringing on copyright or trademarked intellectual property, and of course nothing that is could be considered harassment.
