Sims 4 - City Living Expansion - Review

About time I got that review out right?! I wanted to just take a bit extra time actually exploring the game, and making sure that what I reviewed were in-depth, honest and experienced, rather than just slapped together and thrown out! But anyways, I hope you guys appreciated it, and thanks for watching!

Time stamps:
CAS -
Build Mode -
Gameplay -
Closing Remarks -

If you guys don't want to watch the video, I suppose I could summarize the review in the video here too!

CAS - 8/10
The CAS (or Create-a-sim) is obviously very important to a game where it is essentially creating humans, and playing them to your imagination. With that, it is only natural to want to create yourself, with this expansion, the ethnically diverse clothing options allow for that. You no longer have to imagine your character or yourself, and can truly create a character that resembles you and your culture. I do find at times the cultural garbs can be a bit awkward, or "un-traditional" but with the same feeling comes a refreshing breath. What I mean is, they seem to have updated or evolved the garments to be likely more modern, or even "westernized" (given that this is a very popular western game) to make it more accessible. I wanted to create a muslim character, and while there are headscarfs, there still aren't any real Hijabs, nor clothing options that cover the body well-enough. True, the garments may not have had muslims in mind, but it seemed only natural to have included such a large religion and culture, if head scarfs were added, to appeal to another large demographic of gamers. Overall, however, before I ramble too much, the CAS items are fun, colourful and refreshing. Again, diversity was great, and definitely played into my imagination of high-fashion, hipster, artsy-fartsy, too-cool for me fashion, with all the patterns and colours. And therefore I gave it a cool 8/10.

Build Mode - 7/10
This one is short, nothing all to exciting about the build mode. Apartment traits are cool, they allow for a lot of interesting and unique back stories for your sims, sims that lived there previous and whatever else you can think of. However, the apartments often felt a bit restrictive. You can't build your own apartment buildings, which was expected but the sizes, and number of plots in each location/village were a bit disappointing. The penthouses, or rather penthouse (only one true penthouse suite) were only found in one location, which seemed counter-intuitive, and also disappointing that every apartment building (with 2 apartments) only allowed for one floor to be occupied by 2 families. The number of items added were a bit slim, but the items added were quite impactful, but again nothing truly impressive. Therefore, a similarly lack-lustre 7/10 for the build mode.

Gameplay - 10/10
This expansion had definitely brought it in the gameplay category. Holy cow did I get absorbed and sucked into San Myshuno. It felt alive, and buzzing with energy, and SIMS! The careers are new-age and modern, re-vamped gameplay for those careers and skills like social media and gaming, were welcomed re-visits and the care shows. There is always something to do, someone to talk to, and things going on in, outside, and around your apartments. I truly think this is the best expansion yet, for gameplay alone. Compared to windenburg, San Myshuno has a such a huge difference in feel, excitement and meaningful changes to how you play the sims 4. I could go on, but it is truly a fun experience, the city living expansion. Therefore a solid, 10/10!

Overall, 25/30 ... LOL, again, these numbers are meaningless. I thought they might sum up how I felt overall about the game, but I realized later that I should have waited the gameplay more heavily since CAS and Buildmode are dependent on items, and with so many already at your disposal, you can make due without the new shiny items. But city living in San Myshuno truly is awesome. A great expansion.
