π¬π§ Sinclair ZX Spectrum: Part 2 (Refurbishing begins)
Just a quick update - waiting on parts to arrive to complete and need to buy some more spray paint.
I have re-sprayed the Fuller FDS case with a gloss black paint - looking much better. I'm planning on also painting R/Y/G/B stripes on the case similar to the original Speccy case.
They keyboard has been cleaned & scrubbed.
I'll create new internal cabling for the cassette, reset & video output. I've ordered a vLA82 replacement ULA along with the RGBS output board (8-pin MiniDIN, same pinout as Harlequin 48K) - run the MiniDIN output to a 5-pin DIN socket on the case, similar to Soviet/post-Soviet Speccy clones.
If the vLA82 allows it, I might also add the composite video output as an option.
Not sure what I'll do about the power supply at the moment - the original appears to be a 9V plug pack that's been dismantled and installed (loosely) in the case. The output from that was fed to the keyboard, and from the keyboard to the Speccy board where I've already replaced the 7805 linear regulator with a modern version from EzSBC.
Maybe I'll just install a 2.1mm DC socket on the case to allow 9VDC directly in, or dismantle a 9V plug pack and try a similar installation as per the original.
