With the change to Damage Remotes, stalling on Defense mode requires a bit more management around cog HP. This video is a quick example on how you could make it work in a 2 star, but this is absolutely applicable in a 3 star as well.

Only one damage remote is really needed and it should be a 2 star. 1 star remotes don't last long enough and 3 star remotes will do too much damage unless if you have a row of level 11s or higher (this is more likely in 3 star FOs). Healing remotes are entirely optional, as they don't bring any real benefit since your team should be healing if necessary during Defense Mode. It's okay for dealing with Slow Burn DoT, I guess? Otherwise it's basically irrelevant now due to not dealing self-damage until it expires.

The AoE damage also being increased means you should prioritize using the Damage Remote on the lowest level cog (assuming you have a level 9 or lower on the field). If you let that cog die to the remote too early, then you spawn a new cog that is much healthier and potentially higher leveled than the one you killed. If you use a 2 star damage remote, then you'll need to remote the cog that is lower than level 10. If they're all level 10 or higher, it does not matter.

Due to self-damage not applying on a per-turn basis anymore, one player needs to continue damaging the remote controlled cog which should be simple. Ideally you want to put it in a range where the self-damage will clean up the cog so you can avoid having to use Sound or a Level 7 on the first round of Offense mode. Hoses and Safes are your friends here.

As of the recent patch, cogs damaged by the remote will become unlured, so Lure is pretty awful now for the Boiler fight unless if you're doing a rewardless run. Cogs Miss is 100% the better option, even if Market Research is used. There's also a bug with luring a remote controlled cog, making it skip their remote action if you lure them on the last turn of their remote control.
You can check out that bug in action here:    • Remote Bug

This change to remotes makes them a lot more interesting to use and does not make them broken, unlike what a certain big-shot would tell you. 🙂
