Watch this retro game review video of Ski Hunt, a slightly inferior version of Activision's Skiing where you can also blow up animals. Subscribe to Blown Cartridges for more retro game review videos: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCoDQj54Gd-w8RTdukMrQScQ?sub_confirmation=1

================================

The 1983 Atari 2600 title Ski Hunt has two modes. The first has you skiing downhill past trees, rocks, and occasionally bushes, trying not to crash. You can move left or right; the button does nothing, and you can move downscreen but not back up towards the top. It’s simple and not quite as fun as in Activision’s Skiing.

After a bit of this you’re abruptly switched to the second mode – now, instead of dodging trees and rocks, you’re faced with animals – first moose, then what may be bears, and third what I’m taking to be mountain lions. These can move unpredictably, but you now have a gun you can use to shoot them and cause them to explode.

Controls are otherwise the same as in the first mode, and after you’ve skiied far enough you’ll return to it – eventually the screens will begin to combine previously seen obstacles and animal types as they come at you faster and faster until you run out of lives.

It’s very average, in the end, the shooting segments not adding much life to what’s a prettier but less well made Skiing game. Compared to the Activision title I’ll give Ski Hunt a C.
